King Bhumibol, who celebrates his 86th anniversary today December 5th, is the world’s longest-serving current head of state, over 67 years now, in Thailand.
It would be hard to find any other person in such a position who is so culturally civilized, interested in agriculture and science and commonly respected. During his reign there has been nine coups d’état in Thailand. He would not have been able to hold his position, if all conflicting parties and the whole nation would not have trusted him.
King Bhumibol is not only the head of state, he is also photographer. His pictures can be seen all over Thailand, not only in his royal attire, but also as a “normal” person, sweating, a camera in his hand. So here is a collection of pictures of him, seen on the streets of Thailand.
But before that a couple of pictures from year 1992, when I had the change to join the celebration of King’s birthday. Unfortunately I was not able to take the a picture of the king himself, but you can see some of the guests in their finest costumes.
